FISHING and aquatic activities
The river contains bream, mullet, salmon trout, yabbies and marron (freshwater crayfish), and is ideal fishing for children. You can also catch yabbies in the dams.
Off the beach, one can cast into the shore break for Flathead, Whiting,Mullet and Tommy ruff. Or try your hand at catching sand crabs. From the rocks, Sweep, Rock cod, Trevally and Squid.
Out past the shore break are big salmon and mulloway move into the bay on seasonal migration. Exciting fishing! Kangaroo Island is home to the legendary King George Whiting, Snapper, Kingfish, Snook and Nannagai, to name a few.

Fish amongst beautiful scenery
Don't forget the Southern Rock Lobster, Abalone, Oysters and Scallops, all readily available on the Island.
Fishing on the north coast by boat is exceptional. Note there is no boat ramp at Snellings Beach. Vehicles are allowed on the beach only to launch and retrieve boats, and extreme caution is necessary. High tides and rough seas can occur, severe blows can emerge suddenly. This is not a place for the novice!
Please respect catch limits - preferably keep only the amount of fish you can eat that night.
